Welcome to Jack Creates

Welcome to Jack Creates
Giant's Causeway, Northern Ireland

I'm Jack, from Northern Ireland, a London-based Software Engineer currently working at J.P. Morgan Chase. This blog is my corner of the internet to share what I'm building, learning, and exploring.

A Bit About Me

My career has been centred around working with data and optimisation. My first two roles were at startups where I honed that focus, and now I'm in the fixed income space working with real-time financial data.

I studied Computer Science and AI at the University of Edinburgh. While I was there, I joined a society that designed and built a Hyperloop Pod for the SpaceX Hyperloop competition. We placed top 6 in July 2018.

Before J.P. Morgan Chase, I worked at two startups. Continuum Industries focused on AI-powered infrastructure planning. Prospective was a smart city company that optimised bus scheduling, using transport data to make timetables more effective.

The transition from startup environments to a more structured corporate role has been an interesting shift. I learned by doing both ways, and I came out sharper.

Outside of work, I'm into space (the final frontier kind), building software, triathlon, running, cycling, swimming, weightlifting, socialising, padel, and pickleball.

Why This Blog Exists

I write about whatever interests me, but the core themes are:

  • Building tools that help software engineers move faster and solve harder problems.
  • Documenting my journey with data, optimisation, and AI.

My Relationship with AI

LLMs are a huge increase to our leverage as software engineers. The real artefact of our work is having good prompts and good processes. I'm focused on getting to a higher level of abstraction and staying maximally productive in that space.

Who This Is For

This blog is for:

  • Engineers looking for practical LLM and AI insights.
  • Fellow entrepreneurs who want to follow my journey.
  • Anyone curious about AI tooling, prompts, and building software.

What You'll Get

Reading this blog, you'll find:

  • Deep dives into system prompts and AI engineering (how to build, test, and refine prompts that actually work).
  • Practical insights on building products with AI (from idea to launch).
  • My journey building in public (obstacles, wins, everything in real time).
